New home, new interior style

I rented my first studio apartment in 2008, and I am same time sad and happy, that I cannot show to you how it was decorated. I loved that time strong colors, and used a lot dark red. In my second home I even painted the kitchen cabinets with dark red color, I remember that the color was called pomegranate. Those times I also tried a lot different styles, as I was working in a clothes shop, and new trends were coming and going all the time. But after those years, my style has been going more and more simple and minimalist, and every time I wear some other color than black, people around me are shocked. My two last studios were one of those extremely white (with hint of black) Scandinavian inspired homes.

During my stay in the Netherlands I saw so much different styles, and got so much inspiration from people, shops, homes of my friends, bars, magazines and basically from everywhere. There was nothing boring, nothing too white and simple, and same time nothing too much. And suddenly all white everything in interior is not appealing to me anymore. A part of personal growth maybe? I did buy also red, gray and beige (yeas me!!) clothes this autumn. So how will be the interior in my new home? Definitely not white on white, but blush pink, gray and gold!

I have no idea where did I get this color combination into my mind, as it so unusual combination for me. But it feel so fresh, and something different. I want my home to feel home, cozy and soft. I want to have blushed soft tones, and for contrast some golden details and green from plants. I have loft bed in my new home, the sofa in the picture I already bought, my DIY lamp project got inspiration from the lamp in the mood-boar I made, and the carpet you can see from the photos. I have so many ideas, and I am so exited how the apartment will look later. I will not do everything at once, but I have already a lot new things for this home.

The kitchen is white and simple, and I will use there also some golden details, and “crystal”, so that it would fit better with the other parts of my small apartment.  And like you can see from the photo below, the bathroom is dark gray/ white, so I can easily use the same color palette there also.

So what do you think about my plans so far? Tomorrow I have to go buy few missing things, so that I can spend all the weekend unpacking without stress. I already went to clean the new home and check what I am missing already. Exited, almost moving day!!

Hello new home!

apartment_empty-8-of-11

I have a beautiful new home in Helsinki, and I could not be more exited about this!! My original plan was to stay in the Netherlands till the end of January, but I actually came back to Finland already few days before Christmas. I decided, that I am done with roommates, temporary solutions and having all my things in million places. So I started apartment hunting, which to be honest, in the beginning felt more difficult than winning the lotto. I wanted good looking studio apartment from Helsinki, with reasonable rent and good location. How difficult that could be? Everything available seem to  be everything else than what I was looking for. But then somehow this beautiful small home with ok rent,  from a nice location (Kallio) came available. With numerous emails, my friends help and spending way too much time on the application, I ended up getting that apartment.  Hard work definitely paid off, and today I got the keys to my new home!

The apartment is in old art nouveau (jugend) building, and it has been fully renovated last year. The apartment is small (it is a studio after all), but the space has been used good. There is loft bed, which leaves the room free for everything else, and I have surprisingly huge closet for all my things. But, less space than before means, that it is time to get less stuff, so I think I should finally get that KonMari book, or what do you think?

I am moving in during the next days, and I am beyond exited about all the interior projects I can do with this home. I already have so many ideas, and I cannot wait to share them with you. Because this new home of mine, will be present a lot here also, I created a new category “interior”, so it would be easier for you to find all related posts. You find it from the main page, next to other categories.

Stay tuned, interior ideas coming here soon!

Where to go next – travel dreams 2017

I have been back in Finland less than two weeks, and I am already dreaming where to go next. This year will be the first one in a long time, when I can plan all my traveling based on my own schedule and wishes. Don’t understand me wrong, I loved those years full of trips to Italy, but I also start to love the fact, that now I can travel where ever I want. Because, even thought I wanted to go Italy all those times, same time I was always thinking, how nice it would have been, to travel somewhere else also. As I will be located in Helsinki more permanently now (more of this coming up here tomorrow), I decided that this will be the year, when I finally see more Scandinavia. As funny it may sound, I have actually traveled surprisingly little in our neighboring countries. So Scandinavia in my mind – that will be the theme of my travel year 2017!

I know there are many different opinions about the definition of Scandinavia, and a lot people do not consider example Finland as a part of Scandinavia (I do) and definitely does not count Denmark part of it (not sure about my opinion). But as I wanted to have all the main destinations in my mind in one post,  I included them all to my Scandinavia theme.  And where does my dreams take me? Stockholm in Sweden, somewhere in the mountains of Norway, Copenhagen and more around my home country Finland.

I have visited Stockholm last time in 1989 – how crazy is that? It is so close to Helsinki, and still I never seem to find time to go there. But this year I want to finally make the trip, and preferably spend a long summer weekend in Stockholm.

Copenhagen was on my original travel list for last year, but I postponed the plan, as I was moving to the Netherlands. We even had a short talk about visiting the city from the Netherlands with lady A., but in the end never did it. So it is time to find my Copenhagen travel guide again, and start to plan city trip.

I think Norway and the amazing nature with mountains sounds like a perfect trip when you need to take some time off from the city life. I am dreaming about the beautiful Lofoten (who does not?), but would be happy to go basically anywhere in Norway. Maybe a combined trip of Oslo and the nature around it could be a good trip, but same time I am not sure I need to see the city, when I am dreaming about the nature. Have to ask tips from my Norwegian friend!

And then there is my Finland – how much there is still to see here? I have actually never visited Lapland, so I hope I could make a trip there this year. There is also many beautiful summer cities I would love to visit again, and so many natural parks I definitely want to go. Last summer I also realized how amazing my home city Helsinki is, so it is time to continue the adventures there!

Where do you want to travel this year? And any Scandinavia tips?
